There are a few different areas of locksmithing; we will give you a quick overview of these areas. 1) Entry Locks- Entry locks consist of handle sets and deadbolts. Handle sets are doorknobs that require a key to open them; although they do lock the door they are easy to breach. This is why we recommend our customers to install deadbolts on their exterior doors. A deadbolt when secured can only be opened with a key or by a qualified locksmith. Deadbolts can be unlocked from the inside one of two ways a) turning a thumb latch or b) using a key, this called a double-sided keyway. Double-sided keyways are used when a door has a window within reach of the lock. Always remember to have an emergency key near the exit in the event of a house fire.

2) Access Systems- These are electronically controlled locks. They can be as simple as a doorbell and push button release; or more complex using keypads, access cards, and key fobs. The more complex systems may also maintain a log. This way management can see who is accessing the lock and at what times. These locks are mostly used in small to large commercial applications, so you have to be sure they are installed in compliance with the NFPA. Linus Alarm Corp. can handle any such applications. 3) Re-keying- When a person buys an existing home or business it is good practice to re-key the locks .To re-key (or re-pin) a lock you remove the lock cylinder and replace the pins with a different size. This is less expensive than replacing the entire lock but, is just as effective.


4) Door Closures- This is mostly associated with life safety systems and access control. They keep a door either secured or open, and upon your request or alarm condition, performs the opposite task. You will most likely see these at the entrance into malls and hospitals as handicap entrance devices.


5) Safes- A safe is a storage device every home and business should have. They can be installed as free standing (but bolted to the floor), or wall and floor mounted if space is an issue. When you purchase a safe, make sure you get one with a high fire rating. You will be storing important papers and documents in there. The higher the rating the better the safe. Safes installed by Linus Alarm Corp are always the best safe you can purchase to fit your budget. Safes can be accessed by key, combination lock, or electronic keypad. Higher-level security safes may require two types of entry.


6) Automotive-automotive locksmithing covers a few different categories such as lockouts, ignition replacement, and re-keying. Lockouts, the most common task is gaining entry into a vehicle that has the keys locked inside. Linus Alarm uses the highest quality tools available to open vehicles. Almost every car manufacturer uses a different technique to open their vehicles. Linus stays up to date with this and ensures we have the proper tool for the proper car. This ensures a quick entry and no damage to your car. Ignition replacement is mostly performed on older cars, and years of wear and tear have taken its toll on your ignition. People who like to carry many trinkets on their key chains also cause damage to the ignition from undo stress. Linus Alarm carries an assortment of replacements to quickly change your ignition and get you on the road again. If you were to lose your car keys, Linus Alarm Corp can either replace your keys or generate new ones for you. Depending on the age of your vehicle, Linus alarm can retrieve you key codes from the manufacturer and quickly make you new keys. However, manufacturers only keep those codes for approximately 5 years after that Linus Alarm Corp will have to impression new keys. Impressioning keys are using a file and key blank to make a working key. This is a Time-consuming method and can be costly.
